I blog, therefore I am...

Mimi tagged me... and asked me to list five reasons why I blog. I thought it would be hard to do this, but actually it was disconcertingly easy. I guess this is why I keep blogging!

(1) Community. I started reading blogs about 5 years before I started one. I lurked for years before gaining enough courage to make a few comments. Eventually, I realised I couldn't be part of the blogging community or truly form connections if I didn't start my own blog, so I did... and have "met" some wonderful people in the process.
(2) Written word. I have a moderate-severe hearing loss, so I've always preferred the written word to the spoken word - there is less scope for misunderstandings (on my part). Enough said.
(3) Therapy. My blog is emotional rather than intellectual and when I write it helps me to clarify my thoughts and sort through my feelings. This is particularly with regards to Georgia.
(4) Hobby. Other people knit, garden, do craft, sew, scrapbook, decorate, cook gourmet meals etc. I blog.
(5) Personal history. I want to keep a record of these years - the years when my children are small, when my life revolves around the home and hearth. I don't want to leave my children's childhoods behind, with only a few vague recollections of who we were and what we did.

Who shall I tag? Mom without a manual, Shelley from Shamptoms and Clare from Three Minute Palaver ... because I'd like to know more about all of you!

Five years!? Wow.
I blog because I can't craft - or do anything with my hands, frankly - to save my life.

Done - I enjoyed thinking about why I blog - my hubby didn't get it at first - telling things to the WORLD WIDE WEB(!) - but he has mellowed over time as I have shown him particular posts or shared a blogging tale or two with him. The wonders of modern technology.

I share ALL of your reasons.

And Beck is being too modest...I think cookies the size of your head is DEFINITELY a craft.

Great reasons--and, bonus, blogging is not a fattening hobby. I'm enjoying learning about you and your family here.

But. Who has the fortitude to read for five years before starting a blog? I'm something of a compusive interjecter myself. I think I read blogs for five weeks before starting one.

Thanks for playing!

Sometimes I wish I had started a blog when I first started reading (when I was pregnant with my son). I'd have seven years under my belt!

Mimi -
Blogging can be fattening, like when you devour Thin Mints while you type, or snack on dark chocolate chips right out of the bag. :) Being pregnant doesn't help. LOL.
For me, the community and the therapy aspect really hits home. It proves how much good there really is out there, and the capacity for healing.
Good to get to know you better....
XOXO

I'm amazed you read for 5 years before starting your own blog. I read for about 3 minutes before jumping in!

I love reading why others blog. Thank you :)

Now I feel like a freak! But truly, it didn't even occur to me that I should start a blog ... I was too private a person and had too many concerns about putting everything "out there" for everyone to see. The community was so much smaller back then, now it doesn't feel like a big deal at all.

Hi!

I just finished. Perhaps I am a bad mom. JP's at preschool and I left T in his highchair eating breakfast while I started my reasons. Once I started I couldn't stop...

T didn't seem to mind. He got in a full hour of Sesame Street. I know he wasn't bothered because none of his cinnamon toast got thrown on the floor! Yea! Now I don't have to get out the broom!!!

Hello Dear:
I love your answers alot and I relate to alot of them. I have problems with my hearing too and it's severe too. And alsoas you know English is my second language but this blogging thing is a great practice for me and then I record what's going on in our life and like you did, I used to read blogs before I started it my own and includes your blog.
I guess that's why we all have become so caring about each other.
Always keep in touch, PLEASE!!!
